Steve Reynolds
Recently featured on the cover of Flagstaff Live!, and winner of the 2003 Telluride Acoustic Blues Competition, Steve has just released his new CD “Shut Up & Play”, an instrumental album of some of Steve's favorite finger-style guitar solos, gleaned from his various guitar teachers and gurus. In this album the listener delights in Steve's joyful performance of a wide range of melodies. Steve's own words prepare us for a captivating journey: "I took a workshop with Tommy Emmanuel, the heir apparent to Chet Atkins, and after trying some of his long reaches I was really disappointed to see that his hands were no longer than mine. What an amazing guitarist! I'm just trying to do him justice here on some of his beautiful melodies, mainly because I can't pull off his fast ones... The vocal on Angelina I saw him do on a video somewhere. Lady Madonna is an Eric Schoenberg arrangement, that Scalzo and I stole from him after attending the Puget Sound Workshop years ago. I guess Chet stole it from him too because he did a very similar version much later. Sad Pig dance is a Dave Evans tune that is really funny to me, and on the sheet music the pig does indeed look depressed."
Praise for Steve's album Downriver:
"Steve Reynolds knows the road. Just listen: there's the funky back beat of New Orleans in "Eleezah", the poignant sadness of war in Ireland in "The Town I Loved So Well", the acoustic roots of the Delta in "Mississippi Blues", and the tender sweetness of coming home in "You're the One". With his (very hot) band or on solo guitar, the voice of this singer-songwriter rings with the passion of a richly traveled and well-seasoned life. Apparently the road has been very good to Steve Reynolds. Like a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, trust your guide to take you "Downriver". It's a great musical adventure."
